CRPF jawans killed: Maoist lightning strike on CRPF forces kills three jawans

The Maoists were provoked in Odisha. A CRPF convoy was struck by lightning on Tuesday. Three CRPF jawans were killed and seven others were seriously injured in the incident.

The Maoists were provoked in Odisha. A CRPF convoy was struck by lightning on Tuesday. The incident took place at Patadhara Reserve Forest under Navpada Boden Block. Three CRPF jawans were killed and seven others were seriously injured in the incident. They were attacked by Maoists on their way from one camp to another. Upon receiving the information, police and security personnel rushed to the scene. The deceased have been identified as ASI Shishupal Singh, ASI Shivalal and Constable Dharmendra Kumar Singh.

Additional troops were deployed to the Patadhara Reserve Forest area following the shooting incident. Kumbing is currently operating there for the Maoists. The attack is believed to have been carried out to infiltrate the stagnant Naxal presence in Odisha in recent times. Evidence available at the scene of the shooting suggests that the Maoists used heavy weapons in the attack.

They were identified as the Road Opening Party of the 19th Battalion CRPF. At around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, Maoists opened fire on CRPF forces at Sahaj Pani under Boden police station in Nuwapada district. However, the Maoists fled when the jawans opened fire. Three jawans hid under a tarpaulin as heavy rain fell while the jawans were on their way to the new camp for the road opening.

At around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, Maoists opened fire on CRPF troops at Sahajpani village under Boden police station in Odisha’s Nuwapada district. The Maoists fled as the forces exchanged fire. The deceased have been identified as ASI Shishupal Singh, ASI Shiv Lal and Constable Dharmendra Kumar Singh.

CRPF officials said the three were killed on the spot when the Maoists opened fire indiscriminately on the jawans. IG Amitabh Thakur said three AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from the dead by the Maoists. Naupada SP and CRPF officials reached the spot after learning about the incident. With this, the police and CRPF forces started combing for the Maoists. 

IG Police (Operations) Amitabh Thakur said the Naxals also snatched three AK-47 rifles from the dead soldiers.

Meanwhile, Nuwapada SP and CRPF senior officers reached the spot. Cumbing was mummified in the area. SOG, CRPF More teams were put into operation.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh for the families of the martyrs. Odisha Police DGP Sunil Bansal expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased. He said operations would continue in the area for the whereabouts of the Maoists and the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs would not be in vain.
