Chief Fire Officer Atul Garg said that efforts are on to douse the fire and it may take a few more hours. Garg told PTI that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to submit a report regarding the incident within 24 hours.

Let us tell you that due to the large number of garbage collected here and its size, the people of the surrounding area also call it the mountain of garbage. Even before this, there has been a fire many times in this dumping yard, which was brought under control in time. The DPCC had imposed a fine of Rs 40 lakh on the East Delhi Municipal Corporation after a fire broke out at the Ghazipur landfill site in April last year. Not only this, in 2017, a pile of garbage had collapsed at the Ghazipur landfill site, due to which two people also died.
