Naveen Patnaik urges all members to vote for Draupadi Murmu; The JDU also announced its support

With the support of Nitish Kumar’s JDU and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu has secured an easy victory. Naveen Patnaik tweeted congratulations to NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu and said he was happy to discuss the matter with him. Nitish Kumar said he was happy to nominate a woman from the Scheduled Tribes for the top post. There have been rumors that the BJP will get the support of the JDU as it has been embroiled in protests against the Agnipath. However, with the support of the JDU, the NDA has secured an easy victory. Party national president Lalan Singh also lauded Murmu’s candidature.

The JDU also announced its support

Apart from the JDU, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Jan Shakti Party has also said it will support Murmu. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, a constituent party of the UPA, is also under pressure. JMM National Spokesperson Manoj Pandey welcomed Murmu’s candidature. JMM’s vote bank is the Santal faction, which includes Draupadi Murmu. This will help the NDA to secure at least 60 per cent of the vote. Yashwant Sinha today said that the BJP had demanded the withdrawal of the opposition candidate when a tribal candidate first became the Presidential candidate but would not withdraw from the contest and that this was not a personal contest with Draupadi Murmu. Sinha said the contest was between two ideologies and would seek the support of various parties directly in the states.

Meanwhile, the BJP has come out with a demand to withdraw the opposition’s presidential candidate. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that the JDU will fully support Draupadi Murmu. The BJP leadership is relieved by Nitish Kumar’s announcement that the JDU’s dissent on the Agneepath project will affect
the presidential election.

The Biju Janata Dal in Odisha has also assured its support to Draupadi Murmu. The official announcement is likely to be made tomorrow. The BJP is hoping to get support from the opposition alliance when fielding a woman from a tribal community. The stand of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, a party with great support from the tribals and backward communities, is noteworthy.

Opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha, meanwhile, said it was not a personal contest with Draupadi Murmud.
