Pillai, who lives-in with Paes, had in 2014 approached the court seeking protection under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Pillai said that she had been living in a live-in relationship with Paes for eight years. She claimed that Paes abused her verbally, emotionally and financially with his actions and behavior, causing her to suffer terrible emotional violence and suffering. have encountered. In his order, the magistrate said, “It has been proved that the respondent has committed various acts of domestic violence.”

Apart from the direction to pay Rs 1 lakh per month as maintenance and Rs 50,000 per month as rent, the court said that if Pillai wants to live with his partner Paes, he will not get the rent amount. The magistrate said that Paes’ career in tennis is “almost over”, so it would be an excess if Pillai is ordered to stay in a rented house apart from maintenance.
